The purpose of the Dancing About weekly media releases is to advise of the upcoming dance activities of the society.

The table above contains links to the current draft media releases. It also contains links to historic "Dancing About" media releases, as a reference when drafting new media releases.

The Dancing About media releases are a collaborative activity owned by all members of the MFS DSC. If you see something that needs to be fixed or done, please take care of it. The procedures are included on this page - if the procedures need improving, please improve them.

The intended audience for the media releases is potential new dancers, reached via radio announcers and print media editors.

Editing Draft Dancing About Media Release

If the required draft is not shown in the table above:

  1. add a link to the table above, by copying an existing table row including a link eg:

    Make sure the third column, status, contains "Draft"
  2. Copy the page contents from an existing MR to create the new MR.
  3. Modify the new draft MR by referring to the Events Diary.

Release of Dancing About Media Release (MR)

The Dancing About Media Release (MR) should be released to the Media Release page and emailed out on the Saturday ten clear days before the Wednesday "Week Beginning" date. The roster for releasing media releases is based on the "Week Beginning" date:

Up to and including 1 July 2009 - Lance, then:

Week Beginning In Month Released By
July, November, March Bush Dance Group
August, December, April Canberra Contra Club
September, January, May End of Month Dance Committee
October, February, June Irish Set Dancing


The draft is released by the following procedure, on the Saturday before the "for release on" date. The link to the draft is copied from the table above to the Media Releases page and new drafts for future week(s) are created as required.

If the draft above is due for release, please release it by following these steps:

IN SUMMARY:

  1. Copy the link above into the MR page
  2. Distribute the MR

IN DETAIL:

  1. Copy the link into the MR page
    1. Edit the "Draft & Previous Dancing About Media Releases" section above
    2. Change the third column (Status) from "Draft" to "Released (Initials)"
    3. copy the first two columns of the new table row to the clipboard eg:

    4. Click "Cancel" to cancel the editing of this page (Draft Media Releases)
    5. go to Editing Dancing About Media Releases
    6. paste in the table row from the clipboard, newest on top
    7. delete releases for weeks that are past from the Dancing About Media Releases table. The links will remain in the "Draft & Previous Dancing About Media Releases" section of this Draft Media Releases page
    8. Click on "Save Page" in the "Dancing About Media Releases" page
  2. Distribute the MR
    1. The email addresses list for Media Release mailouts is maintained on the members-only web site.
    2. The layout is suitable for copy and paste of all text from the draft MR article, into a new email body.
    3. The first line is cut and pasted from the body into the subject line.

Amending the list of email addresses

  1. Make sure you are logged in to the members web site.
  2. Go to http://www.mfs.org.au/members/index.php/Image:Dancing_About_with_the_Monaro_Folk_Society.doc
  3. Click on "Dancing_About_with_the_Monaro_Folk_Society.doc" to download the file
  4. Save to any location on your hard disk
  5. Open, modify and save the file (you will need to know the password)
  6. Return to http://www.mfs.org.au/members/index.php/Image:Dancing_About_with_the_Monaro_Folk_Society.doc
  7. Click on "Upload a new version of this file"
  8. Upload the modified file

The Society runs Contra Dancing to the music of the fabulous Canberra Contra Club band, on the first and third Tuesdays of the month and that is on Tuesday 7 July, 730-930pm at St Margaret's Church Hall in Hackett.

Everyone is welcome to learn lively dances to live music, at Bush Dance Classes every Monday night, 8-10PM at the All Saints Church Hall in Cowper Street Ainslie.
