The End of Month Dance Pass
The End of Month Dance Pass provides entry to all End of Month (Last Saturday) dances including the Shearer's Ball, and the New Years Eve dance. The pass does not cover the Colonial Ball that is held on the first Saturday in September, nor first Saturday dances and balls.
It provides convenience of annual purchase and excellent value for money.
Value
The number of End of Month (EOM) dances may vary due to factors like the possible non-scheduling of dances on long weekends. The value at current prices is up to $164, for 10 End of Month Bush Dances, the Shearers Ball, and the New Years Eve dance. In 2012 there is no dance at the end of September, due to the moving "Family & Community Services" holiday, and the value is up to $150. The price also takes into account the likelihood of purchasers taking annual leave each year and missing other dances for unavoidable reasons.
Cost
The cost of the annual pass is $99. It is available for on-line purchase by credit or debit card via the MFS PayPal service, or by cash or cheque at EOM dances.
The pass may be purchased on-line at the same time as MFS membership, or separately.
Conditions
- Valid for 12 months including the month of the dance at which it is obtained
- Must be shown on entry
- Cannot be redeemed for cash, refunded, transferred or used by another person
- Can be extended in some circumstances
- Available only to MFS Members
Rationale
The End of Month Dance Organising Team (EOMDOT) have been seeking ways of increasing numbers through the door and looking for examples of successful practices. EOMDOT recognises that many people have purchased annual passes at gyms, tourist attractions, film societies, and so forth, and that this has generally increased their participation in the activity.
The aim of the pass is to increase participation rates by offering pre-purchase at an attractive discount.
Value Guarantee
In case of dance cancellations etc
If the scheduling or cancellation of dances results in the dance value of the pass being less than $110 then the term of the pass will be extended until it exceeds this amount.
The pass provides protection against price increases for the term of the pass.
As with any pre-payment, there is a small risk of loss in the case of bankruptcy etc. The MFS is in a sound financial position and there is no known reason to expect this. Although current committees cannot bind future committees, it would be expected that any future change would be made in a fair way with, for example, twelve months notice given of any major change to the dance program, or pro-rata refunds made. No such change is foreseen.
Expiry
The pass covers the dance at which it is obtained plus eleven other calendar months, a total of twelve months. Thus a pass obtained at the dance in October 2012 will expire at the end of September 2013 and the renewal will need to be made for the October 2013 dance.
Extension
Doorkeepers are entitled to a two dance extension for each of their worked events. For example expiry end of August is extended to expiry end of October, or end of November if there is no EOM dance in September.
Other purchasers are asked to recognise that they are helping a worthy cause, that the low price recognises the risk of unavoidable non-use, and that reasonable "give and take" is needed with goodwill and good humour all round. There is a lot of work involved for volunteers in handling requests for extension. However in extreme circumstances such as serious medical problems, the pass may be placed "on hold" and the expiry date extended accordingly. Requests should be made by email to the EOM Dance Organising Team as shown in "Contact Us" on the public MFS web site, or in writing to the MFS post office box marked "Attention EOM Dance Organising Team".
Records
The EOM Dance doorkeepers keep a list showing
- Date Issued
- Name(s) of pass holder(s)
- Amount paid
- Cash, Cheque or Paypal
- "Expires end of" month
Purchasers may choose between a joint pass showing multiple names, or individual passes.
On extension, the card is altered and initialled by the doorkeeper, or a new card issued. The doorkeeper also marks the new expiry month against the card on the list, with initials and date. Joint passes may be replaced by equivalent individual passes, for example if only one of the joint pass-holders has their pass expiry date extended.
All data from the list is entered into a spreadsheet for backup purposes, and checking against PayPal. This on-line shared spreadsheet may be accessed by any EOM Dance Organising Team member or Doorkeeper.
For cash payments, a receipt will also be issued.
PayPal purchasers will receive a standard PayPal e-mail receipt to print and present to the Doorkeepers to obtain a pass. The pass commences when the receipt is first presented at a dance and a pass is issued, not at the time of purchase.
The doorkeepers rule a line on the list to indicate that all entries above the line have expired.
