Welcome to Canberra Bush Dance
"Welcome to Canberra 2013" Bush Dance
Saturday 23 March 2013
Come along and enjoy one of the best active recreation opportunities that Canberra has to offer! Join us and participate in the Monaro Folk Society's "Welcome to Canberra 2013" bush dance and you will indeed be made welcome with open arms.
All Canberrans are invited to come along and welcome our interstate visitors. And all visitors to Canberra, especially Centenary of Canberra and National Folk Festival visitors, are invited to come along to be welcomed to Canberra.
To make you feel at home we will be featuring some dances that have been written in the region, all to the great music of Canberra's own Bush Capital Band, with Beryl Pedvin calling, and a special bracket by local dance composer Claire Stoneman.
And if you are from interstate, how does admission at the amazingly low Monaro Folk Society member's price of only $19 sound? Well you've got it! Just mention that you are from interstate for cheerful admission at our members' price. Or if you are a full-time student admission is half price - just show us your student card.
There is no need to book, no need to come with a partner, no need to dress up, no experience needed and all the dances will be taught. Just turn up at the door wearing casual dress and comfortable shoes suitable for active dancing, or 1913 woolshed gear (moleskins and long skirts) for a great night out and a warm welcome to Canberra.
When: Saturday 23 March 2013 8-11:30pm
Where: Yarralumla Woolshed
Dance Program: Quorndon Hill; Chain Double Quadrille; Manchester Galop; Clockwork Waltz; Soldiers Joy; King George Square; Hoskingtown Foosh; Goodwill Ribbons; Gates of Moy; Armstrong’s Waltz; Cumberland Long Eight; New Parliament House Jig; Binda Waltz; Numeralla Jig; Southern Cross; with either Virginia Reel or Strip the Willow to finish; and a bonus uncalled Postie’s Jig if time and the band permits.
